A collaborative visualisation ecosystem at Monash University
David G Barnes, Monash University
3-4pm 6th Jul 2018
The Monash Immersive Visualisation Platform (MIVP) at Monash University, in Melbourne, Australia, partners with research groups and industry to transform visualisation practice. We innovate and promote new paradigms in immersive, collaborative visualisation of data and environments, and operate a number of the University's advanced visualisation facilities ranging from the ultra-scale CAVE2 down to personal head-mounted virtual reality (VR) devices. We provide services in graphics programming, scientific programming, VR and CAVE2 operations and programming, display and VR consulting, and ideation and co-creation support. In this talk I will provide a broad introduction to MIVP's facilities, expertise and mode of operation, and show how the wide range of projects we are engaged in is enabling us to integrate a modern visualisation ecosystem that brings together web, desktop, VR and CAVE2 visualisation of 3D data in a "one-stop self-service shop", complete with physically remote collaboration in shared virtual spaces.
