New ways to manage wireless edge-caches

An important trend in 5G wireless networks is the densification of wireless access nodes, and the migration of storage and computation resources at the edge. Within the framework of Mobile Edge Computing, edge-caching specifically plays an important role for video and multimedia offloading. The talk will present novel findings related to the joint edge-cache management and user association problem. Multi-coverage possibilities in the wireless environment allow for several modifications compared to wired cache management. We will consider very large networks and will introduce the probabilistic cache placement policy, and the distributed multi-LRU protocol. An algorithm for distributed load balancing among edge-caches will be presented. The talk will conclude with ways to monetise on edge-storage space.

Short Bio

Anastasios Giovanidis is a tenured researcher of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) affiliated with the LIP6 Laboratory of the Sorbonne University. Before that, he was for three years with Telecom ParisTech, France. He received the Diploma in electrical and computer engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and the Dr.-Ing. degree from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, in 2005 and 2010, respectively. He has been a scientific associate at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin, and a postdoctoral fellow in discrete optimisation at the Zuse Institute Berlin. He was also a postdoctoral fellow at the INRIA institute in Paris, where he worked on stochastic geometry applications in wireless communications. He has co-chaired WIOPT 2017, GAMENETS 2019 and the CCDWN 2018 workshop. His research interests are in the area of performance evaluation and optimization of telecommunication networks.
